The Tattnall Square Trojans are one series away from returning to the GISA Class AAA state baseball finals after a nail-biting 14-inning win over Tiftarea Saturday in Chula to win their quarterfinal series two games to one. The teams split on Friday, forcing Saturday's deciding game. At one stretch, from the third through the 13th, both teams went ten straight innings without scoring. With the inning rule forcing a pitching change, Tattnall was able to push across three runs in the 14th, and closed the Panthers out with a 1-2-3 bottom of the inning. The Trojans will host region 2-AAA foe Mount de Sales in the semi-finals after the Cavaliers disposed of Southland in the quarterfinals. In the other bracket, Deerfield-Windsor stunned tournament favorite Westfield with a Saturday doubleheader sweep 7-6 and 3-2, and will host Brookwood in the semi-finals. Brookwood, like Deerfield a member of 3-AAA, beat Stratford in Saturday's deciding game after the Eagles evened the series with a 13-3 mercy rule win in game two. In class AA, inclement weather forced Windsor and Frederica into a rare Sunday doubleheader, with Frederica knocking the Knights out of the playoffs with a 6-4, 6-2 sweep.
