Infant dies, mother injured in Saturday crash

An infant was killed and her mother is in critical condition after both were involved in crash Saturday night. According to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones, 2-month-old Karleigh Fountain was thrown a vehicle after a car, driven by the girl’s father, crashed into her mother’s car. Karleigh was pronounced dead at The Medical Center of Central Georgia at 5:22 p.m. The child’s mother, 21-year-old Laqwesha Johnson, was in critical condition in the Medical Center on Sunday afternoon. It’s not known if the child was properly restrained in the vehicle. The crash happened around 5:05 p.m. on Interstate 75 south near the Rocky Creek Road exit. Little information has been released about the crash pending an investigation. An autopsy will be performed today at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Macon.
