BOE keeps same tax rate

The Bibb County School Board has voted to adopt the fiscal year 2013 tax levy which proposes that the millage rate for the Bibb County School District remain at 17.945. The vote was held Thursday during a called board meeting.

During Thursday's meeting, the board also voted to pay Superintendent Romain Dallemand's attorney fees, per his contract, in regards to a legal suit filed by board member Gary Bechtel. Bechtel and his wife filed the suit after the academic records of their son were released during a recent audit. Bechtel was absent from Thursday's meeting.

In a separate vote, the board voted 7-0 to direct school system attorneys to challenge having to pay attorney's fees in a lawsuit the school system lost against Bechtel and school board candidates Lester Miller and Brenda Sutton. The three recently sued the school board and the Bibb County Board of Elections to force them to use new, federally approved voting districts in the county rather than the old ones.
